In Operation Since: 2006

Managing partner: Scott Sherwood

Scott Sherwood is a proven entrepreneur who built, owned and operated a multi-million dollar retail sporting goods company for over 25 years. From spending days at the race track as a kid handicapping races, to owning his own stable, Scott combines his knowledge and passion for racing with his accute business sense to make Blinkers On a success.

Additional Key players: Greg Gilchrist Trainer/Thoroughbred Buyer

Greg's illustrious career has spanned over three decades during which time he has started over 6,500 horses while compiling over 1500 wins. Greg's 23% winning percentage and 54% in the money percentage make him one of the most respected trainers in the country.

What kinds of horses do you target, for what kinds of races? What are the main goals of your partnerships?

Blinkers On purchases young thoroughbreds, primarily 2-year-olds. At auction, the horses offering the best value are purchased, generally in the range of $50,000 to $200,000. These horses are expected to compete at the highest level of racing.

How is the managing partner compensated?

Blinkers On receives five percent of all purses earned, in order to cover management costs, and if the horse is sold at a profit, Blinkers On will receive ten percent of the profit.

Who authorizes the various expenditures and how are the partners notified and billed?

Scott Sherwood, the managing partner, authorizes the expenditures. The partners are billed quarterly (in advance) on a detailed statement, and estimates and actual expenses are reconciled at the end of the quarter.

When income is recognized from purse money or sales, does this income flow directly to investors or is it maintained in an account to cover future expenses? At what point does the partnership settle up (monthly, quarterly or annually)? Is each partner provided a statement reflecting cash receipts and disbursements? How often?

Owners of a horse earning a purse will receive a disbursement check within approximately 10 business days. If a horse is sold by the partnership, a check will be distributed to the owner after a final reconciliation is made to close out the partnership. No money earned by a partner is ever held in an account to cover future expenses.

Are racing and sales decisions made solely at the discretion of the managing partner?

The day to day decisions are made by the managing partner, Scott Sherwood after obtaining all of the information and opinions from the trainer, Greg Gilchrist. Because Blinkers On Racing Stable is a General Partnership, major decisions like the sale of a horse are made after a vote by the partners.

How do you keep your partners updated about their horses (Email, phone, website, online message board, etc.) and how often are they updated?

Blinkers On partners are updated on their horse's activities via a password-protected private partner section on our website, as well as by e-mail and phone. Partners are constantly updated with workout recaps, upcoming racing plans, and every other important detail on their horse.

What sort of services and perks do you offer your partners? Stable Visits? Farm Visits? Help handling the licensing? Anything special you want to mention?

As a Blinkers On partner you will have access to morning workouts and the stable area so you can see first hand how your horse is progressing. On race day, as a licensed owner, you will have free admission, paddock privileges and an opportunity to meet and greet the jockeys. Then, if your horse wins, you will feel the unmatched thrill of walking up to the winner's circle for a photograph. Blinkers On will help first time owners get licensed and become an insider in thoroughbred racing.

I am now entering my third year of ownership with Blinkers On. I came to the partnership after having owned several horses on my own. This has proven to be a far better approach for me as I have the same thrill of participation without the same level of financial uncertainty and exposure. The horses purchased by Blinkers On are of a much higher caliber and thus more certain to participate in higher level races including stakes races. As an individual I could only afford lower level claiming horses and never could cover my operating costs. This has been the perfect solution.

I have owned shares in horses with Blinkers On for three years now. It is because of the knowledge and communication from Scott and Greg that I have felt confident about making investments in ten horses up until now. All of the partners are kept up to speed through the information provided on the website as well as phone calls to inform us of race dates and times, morning workouts, and the overall well being of our horses.

I have enjoyed horse racing so much more since becoming a partner with Blinkers On. This partnership has provided me with the unforgettable experience of being in the winner's circle and sharing it with my partners, friends, and loved ones.

Racing partnerships are about information. Scott Sherwood & Greg Gilchrist keep partners informed constantly through internet, phone calls e-mail. I always know the status of my horses. They have opened a world I knew existed but never believed was run by astute business & horseman. The care they have for their partners is unequaled in any business. The ability to see my horses spring from 2 year olds "in training" to winners @ the track has been priceless & I am always notified when they work & when they run so I can have my family enjoy the thrills.
